Attachments and lifting work require more than recognising a familiar answer in a video. Use this session to organise the equipment information, training and planning needed for the specific task.
What to review
For lifting activities, refer to current HSE guidance on planning and supervision. Check the excavator and attachment documentation and do not infer lifting capacity or suitability from the size of the machine.
When studying, connect the explanation to the equipment and task you know from training. If the example differs from your own machine or site, write down what needs confirming rather than filling the gap from memory. Keep those questions for your next discussion with a competent trainer.
Check your understanding
- What must you know about the ground and working area?
- Which checks apply to the fitted attachment and its connections?
- What would make you stop work and ask for the plan to be reviewed?
A focused revision exercise
List the documents and competent people needed to resolve a hypothetical lifting task.
