CPCS A61 Appointed Person Revision: Building a Complete Lift Plan

CPCS A61 Appointed Person Revision: Building a Complete Lift Plan

The appointed person’s revision needs to connect the load, lifting equipment, worksite and people involved. Use the older A61 video alongside current guidance to check how those pieces fit together.

What to review

Treat an incomplete description as a reason to gather information. Study what needs to be known about the load, the route of the lift, the equipment and the surrounding hazards before suitable arrangements can be selected.

HSE’s lifting guidance explains the importance of competent planning and an appropriate safe system of work. Revision should therefore include responsibilities, communication and what happens if the original assumptions change.

Check your understanding

  • What information is needed about the load and its destination?
  • Who is responsible for preparing and communicating the lift plan?
  • What changes would require the plan to be reviewed before the lift proceeds?

A focused revision exercise

Create a list of questions you would ask before planning a hypothetical lift. Do not choose capacities or equipment from guesswork; use the missing information to identify the resources a competent planner would need.
