CPCS A23 Skid Steer Loader Revision: Preparation and Working Areas

CPCS A23 Skid Steer Loader Revision: Preparation and Working Areas

Compact machines can work in restricted spaces, but small size does not remove the need for preparation and a clear working area. This A23 revision guide accompanies the older skid-steer video.

What to review

Use the operator’s handbook to organise checks for the machine and any fitted attachment. Keep a record of how defects are reported and who can decide whether the machine is fit for use. Do not let a familiar machine become a reason to skip the checks.

Discuss the working area as well as the controls. Visibility, nearby people, access routes and the intended task all belong in the revision conversation. When revising attachment changes, use the exact manufacturer’s instructions and your training rather than a generic remembered sequence.

Check your understanding

  • Where does the handbook explain safe entry and exit?
  • What must be checked before using a different attachment?
  • How will pedestrians be kept clear of the working area?

A focused revision exercise

Sketch a simple work area and mark where the machine, pedestrians and materials would be. Use the sketch to identify questions for the site plan; it is a revision exercise, not an operating plan.
